Smart pointers in #C++ come from <memory>. #Tutorial shows examples with std::unique_ptr, which it recommends as the default choice for “POCO”. on 02024-06-02#video #tutorial on #Godot multiplayer platformer based on the Brackeys platformer tutorial. ENetMultiplayerPeer and the Godot multiplayer API looks really easy to use in the case where it’s okay to depend on a server. I didn’t know Godot’s debug menu had a “run multiple instances” submenu, and in project settings, there's a Display→Window→Always on Top option, which is very useful for debugging. The MultiplayerSpawner node automatically replicates the scenes under its spawn path across all the players in the cluster, using its auto-spawn list to figure out how to instantiate them, except that it seems like actually you have to write code to manually instantiate scenes there? Maybe only on the server? By default only the server can change any (MultiplayerSynchronizer) node that’s synchronized across clients, but it can .set_multiplayer_authority(id) on a node to allow one of the players to change it instead. The MultiplayerSynchronizer synchronizes properties of other nodes. #BatteryAcidDev’s recommendation is to only give the player authority over their inputs, not over their player’s position. He’s using an LCD SLA printer to get nice smooth prints and graphite spray paint, but shows that some graphite paints are not compatible with some automotive body work putties, because the paint cracks. He’s measuring 12.5kΩ between points a few centimeters apart, which is similar to what I get with a pencil on paper, but after he burnishes it with a towel, he gets only 5kΩ. To burnish his Benchy he tumbles it in walnut shells for four hours. He uses an unspecified commercial bright acid copper electrolyte for the initial plating, using coffee filters for the anode bags on his copper anodes. He recommends using a constant-current power supply with 1A/dm² while rotating the workpiece, but he suggests also using the voltage (0.6–1.0V) to tell if your current setting is right! He gets a lovely mirror finish with his trade-secret electrolyte composition, but then sands and buffs it. Before plating gold, nickel, or silver over the copper, he suggests galvanic degreasing, using a stainless steel anode and 6V; he applies gold with a galvanic brush (electrolyte not disclosed) and 6 volts. #manufacturing #bootstrapping #video #electrolysis

on 02023-07-13Raymond Chen’s #ARM #asm #tutorial. Section on loading constants in one instruction, with mov, mvn, #movt, shifts, rotates, etc. This is the thing to read to understand how to generate constants on ARM, especially Thumb. “You can take your 8-bit unsigned immediate and shift it left by up to 24 positions, thereby allowing you to create any 32-bit constant where the span from the lowest to highest set bit is at most 8 positions. There are also a few special transformations (...) handy for setting up a register to fill memory with a repeating pattern. (...) In addition to all of the special constants that can be generated with MOV, you can use the MVN instruction to generate the bitwise NOT of them all.”
Raymond Chen’s #ARM #asm #tutorial covering the available addressing modes, including quirks like the absence of shifts other than left shift or more than three for byte or halfward access. Also how the Microsoft assembler says |foo| to mean “the address of foo” and how literal pools work.
Raymond Chen’s #ARM #asm #tutorial introduces #Thumb. The #Microsoft-Windows ABI only lets you conditionalize a single instruction with IT! You can’t use ITE, ITTE, ITEE, etc., at all there, because it doesn’t know how to recover from hardware interrupts.
