“We present DeepSeek-Coder-V2, an open-source Mixture-of-Experts (MoE) code language model that achieves performance comparable to GPT4-Turbo in code-specific tasks. Specifically, DeepSeek-Coder-V2 is further pre-trained from an intermediate checkpoint of DeepSeek-V2 with additional 6 trillion tokens. Through this continued pre-training, DeepSeek-Coder-V2 substantially enhances the coding and mathematical reasoning capabilities of DeepSeek-V2, while maintaining comparable performance in general language tasks.” #neural-networks #DeepSeek #AI

Apparently there’s a separable approach to this: “Like a Fourier Transform, you can apply it to 2D images by applying it horizontally on each row X, then vertically on each column Y (or vice versa).” ...really? Holy shit, you just count up with squared distances and everything works, that’s fucking insane. Then he figures out how to make it work with subpixel #antialiasing: “Here’s how I assembled a “true” Euclidean Subpixel Distance Transform.” #algorithms #toread

Abstract: We describe linear-time algorithms for solving a class of problems that involve transforming a cost function on a grid using spatial information. These problems can be viewed as a generalization of classical distance transforms of binary images, where the binary image is replaced by an arbitrary function on a grid. Alternatively they can be viewed in terms of the minimum convolution of two functions, which is an important operation in grayscale morphology. A consequence of our techniques is a simple and fast method for computing the Euclidean distance transform of a binary image. Our algorithms are also applicable to Viterbi decoding, belief propagation, and optimal control.
#video. He says he “evaluates the [#SDF] function once for all points on a [sparse] grid once, and then reuse those cached values when rendering” to get fast enough #performance for fully dynamic #videogames, using bilinear interpolation between the SDF at lattice points to approximate the SDF at intermediate positions. This produces the usual chamfered corner artifacts you see in SDF fonts, as he points out. He uses “brick maps” to reduce storage and, for #LoD, “geometry clipmaps” and the #Jolt-physics engine. However, it seems like he’s having trouble with objects “melting” onto his terrain. #toread #graphics #shaders

#Stealth-Camping #vanlife #video by #Amber-Baldwin listing 9 “secret” camping spots that only the 121000 people who have seen this video know about:
Hotel parking lots that don’t require a tag on the car (which you can see by checking to see if other cars have tags on them). Apparently hotels in southern California are not yet using automatic license plate recognition, but cheaper hotels don’t bother requiring you to register your vehicle. She says it’s safe but noisy.
Rest areas. (Could this possibly be any more obvious? I’m tempted to stop watching the video at this point.) Washington and Texas are apparently the best states for rest areas in the #USA.
Residential areas, but not super fancy ones where they’ll knock on your RV door, and not right in front of somebody’s house. Sigh. She recommends an app called Overlander to see which ones permit camping.
