#video by Mikkel deMib on pit-firing #ceramics #materials with glaze, which he says is “theoretically impossible” I guess because you’ll lose the pit-firing colors. He’s going to try on a porcelain vase he previously glazed the inside of at 1260°, which he says will guarantee that it’s waterproof anyway. Also his idea of “pit firing” seems to involve a steel drum; I think he's just calling it “pit firing” because he’s using wood, even though no pit is involved anywhere. He colors his once-fired white porcelain with ferric chloride, and cobalt sulfate, and some rotten banana peels, and copper carbonate, and salt, and steel wool, and newspaper, and coffee grounds, and eggshells, all wrapped up in “tinfoil”, probably aluminum foil, because he probably doesn’t know the difference between aluminum and tin. To stick the “tinfoil” to the ceramic he uses hairspray or spray glue. Some of the “tinfoil” survived until the end of the “pit firing”. It all kind of looks horrible; he keeps saying it looks “much more interesting” but to me it looks like mold grew all over it.
