#MrCarlson’s Lab #video about antiparallel diodes for front-end voltage limiting (in particular for radio receivers), mentioning that diode-connected transistors are less leaky. He also vividly illustrates diodes as temperature sensors by heating one with his finger while connected to an Agilent U2152A multimeter with a 4-digit diode-test function; the forward voltage drops from .6246V to .6214V, 100μV at a time, from the finger heating, then resurges to .6246V after he removes his finger. cartoon #video about the history of technological development, claiming that Çatal Höyük (#Catalhoyuk) got rich selling its #obsidian. Incorrectly claims that chalcolithic axes (and chisels, knives, saws, drills, etc.) were cast, and incorrectly claims that chalcolithic copper was entirely smelted from ore, when in fact we know that native copper is common even today. Incorrectly claims that the first bronze was a tin-copper alloy, rather than arsenical bronze. Incorrectly claims that bronze can take harder hits than copper. Presumably there are more major errors in the rest of the video I didn’t watch. #Plonk to "The Grainbound" for unforgivable levels of sloppiness about historical truth.

#WSJ #news #video saying #The-Line (and the rest of Neom) has failed in #Saudi Arabia “over the last nine months or so”. Lots of talking-head filler. “Construction on all the major projects has stopped or is winding down.” But Yasir al-Rumayyan says that nothing has been canceled, just reprioritized, because it’s not “necessary” to deliver The Line by 02030. The golf courses in Sindalah have turned brown. The US$500B initial budget (up to 02080) has ballooned to US$8.8T. So they’re focused on "Oxagon", the port part of Neom.
#politics #news #video about how the #New-START treaty, the last #nuclear-weapons #disarmament treaty, signed in 02010 by #Obama and #Medvedev, expired on 02026-02-04. #Interview material with Sophie Bolt and Eliana Johns. #History of disarmament treaties with stock photos; between START in 01991 and 02009, warhead stockpiles declined 82%. The history of the “nuclear taboo”. For some reason there’s a lot of blurred stock footage of Kermit the Frog. George W. Bush pulled out of the ABM treaty with the #GWOT as an excuse, and the next day Russia withdrew from the 01991 START II. #China’s #no-first-use policy and attempt to establish it as an international standard.

#cartoon #video compilation of Felix the Cat, including the public-domain “Felix the Cat Gets the Can”, from 01924; “Felix the Cat in Woos Whoopie” from 01930, “Felix the Cat in Sure-Locked Homes” from 01928, “Felix the Cat in Futuritzy”, and “Feline Follies”. These seem to nearly all be from the silent-film era; they are nearly all in black and white and frequently feature speech bubbles and occasionally intertitles. There is an obtrusive “8thmandvd.com Cartoon Classics!” logo overlaid. He’s supposedly one of the most famous examples of the #rubber-hose #animation style in #history, Bill Nolan having introduced the style when animating him, and these cartoons are exemplary of the style. The “Woos Whoopie” section starting around 2h18m has many sound effects (laughter, whimpers of fear, footsteps, car-engine sounds, cuckoos, horn blasts, etc., rather than just an orchestral score) but no spoken dialogue.
One exception is “Felix the Cat and the Goose that Laid the Golden Egg”, from 01936, in “Burt Gillett’s Rainbow Parade Cartoon in Technicolor”, at the very beginning, which also has both spoken and sung dialogue, and is notable for being a pirate cartoon from before the “Treasure Island” movie estabished the “pirate accent,” so Captain Kidd and the other pirates speak General American. The drawing style is also noticeably less rubber-hosey, with well-defined elbows. This is followed by “Felix the Cat in Neptune Nonsense”, also from 01936, also in color with spoken dialogue and elbows, as well as an orchestral score. And “Felix the Cat in Bold King Cole”.
Felix does not have his “bag of tricks” in this incarnation.
