#Bitluni assembling a US$140 #CNC mill from a kit four years ago. After some trial and error and breaking a D-bit from having too low a speed and too high a speed, and an end mill from a mistake I didn’t understand, he does eventually succeed in #manufacturing a “PCB” from copper-clad. #video
#video on #Hyperspace-Pirate #bootstrapping DIY #CNC upgrades. He drilled the aluminum parts (on his drill press, I assume) with locator jigs made with #3D-printing; that’s almost 3-D printing of aluminum, right? Two nuts on every leadscrew, separated by a nut block, can be preloaded (with four screws in each nut) to reduce leadscrew backlash. His gantry machine frame is largely #8020 rail held together with 3-D printed PLA brackets. He says FreeCAD is very intuitive and easy to use.
"ljs" is #Lua with “C/C++/Java/Javascript” syntax: for(k,v in pairs(A)) { if(k == "one") continue; print(k, type(k), v); }
"RaptorJIT" is a #LuaJIT fork used in the Snabb Switch. This fork of it provides #ljs syntax. #Lua
#NeoVim always has #Lua embedded, and includes a standard library to supplement Lua’s weak points.
"Duktape" is an embeddable #JS engine (ES5.1 with some ES2015 stuff) in under 200kB of code, comparable to Lua, capable of running with under 2kB of RAM

"QuickJS" is a free-software #JS engine (ES2023) designed for lightweight embedding. 210 KiB of x86 code, 300μs life cycle. “Can compile Javascript sources to executables with no external dependency.”
#Performance of different #JS engines about 10 years ago, comparing #QuickJS to #Duktape, V8, plus two other lightweight JS implementations, #JerryScript and #MuJS, and apparently things called Hermes and XS (#Moddable?). Taking V8 as the baseline, roughly, V8 --jitless is 22× slower, QuickJS and Hermes are 37× slower, Duktape is 88× slower, XS is 56× slower, MuJS is 260× slower, and JerryScript failed to run most of the tests.
"Moddable" is a free-software #JS engine (ES2023) for #microcontrollers like ESP8266, ESP32, Raspberry Pi Pico, nRF52, etc. Its JS engine is called “XS”.
