Attempts at plasma nitriding failed. Unfortunately the video contains a lot of filler stock footage.
on 02026-04-14#Thought-Emporium #video on holographic #optics and how commercial holographic patterns are hot-stamped, but he’s making computed holograms with a film camera and Rafael de la Fuente’s Diffractsim. Explains how diffraction works with animations and shows many other diffraction phenomena, including the Arago spot. Photographs a zoneplate on Ilford ISO 50 pan film; plans to use Adox CMS 20 super-high-resolution film. Projects the hologram from the film negative with a pinhole-aperture white LED rather than a laser. Also hopes to use photon sieves in the future.

He confuses microfiche with other forms of microfilm, but then hand-develops Ilford PANF ISO 50 film. Mentions Fujifilm panchromatic Minicopy HR II film, which is ISO 6, intended specifically for microfilm. What he wants to do is photographically print zoneplates and other diffraction gratings.

on 02024-04-03#manufacturing a #cold-plasma torch for bio lab sterilization. You stick a needle or a thin nichrome wire in a quartz capillary tube and, some distance down the tube, a metal washer (or piece of brass tubing with no sharp edges) around it. Then you power them with a ZVS driver and flyback transformer, and blow argon through the RF spark between them. After 17 attempts over a year, he finally built a practical version. A delrin spacer kept the high-voltage electrode from directly touching his outer acrylic tube; a similar teflon spacer kept the “washer” from touching the acrylic. This was because the acrylic was becoming charged and attracting the plasma, keeping it from escaping the torch. He plans to publish a paper on how to do it. #Thought-Emporium #video
