blog post about #Godot removing the #VisualScript #visual-programming language
the official announcement about #Godot removing the #visual-programming language. “Godot’s visual scripting language, #VisualScript, was introduced in Godot 3.0, almost five years ago. Despite our continuous effort, it never gained traction and the path to improve it was never clear. ... For a lot of potential users that wanted this feature, they found out GDScript was a great fit and they pretty much ended up preferring it over VisualScript. ... Another likely reason for VisualScript’s low popularity is that we failed to provide good documentation for using it. The official documentation has examples in GDScript and C#, but we never succeeded in including VisualScript examples due to technical reasons (we’d have to make screenshots of VS graphs for each example and maintaining them would prove very difficult).”

They used an IBM 360 Model 40 with two IBM 2311 disk drives, a Burroughs prototype CRT, and a “RAND tablet”.

#video on making a “desktop pet” like oneko in #Godot. She used get_window().mouse_passthrough_polygon but couldn’t get it to work at first. I don’t understand what she changed to make it work. She says geegaz’s “Multiple-Windows-Tutorial” helped her a lot. She ended up using PhysicsPointQueryParameters2D and DisplayServer.mouse_get_position() to find out what objects her mouse was intersecting because of lots of difficulties with input management. And turning borderless off and back on again in order to get her transparent “world window” to resize properly. Finally she ended up hacking around things with C# and P/Invoke to call things in user32.dll after some help from ChatGPT.
