#WSJ #news #video saying #The-Line (and the rest of Neom) has failed in #Saudi Arabia “over the last nine months or so”. Lots of talking-head filler. “Construction on all the major projects has stopped or is winding down.” But Yasir al-Rumayyan says that nothing has been canceled, just reprioritized, because it’s not “necessary” to deliver The Line by 02030. The golf courses in Sindalah have turned brown. The US$500B initial budget (up to 02080) has ballooned to US$8.8T. So they’re focused on "Oxagon", the port part of Neom.

on 02026-01-03#video about the construction of The Mukaab (The Cube) in Riyadh, in Saudi Arabia, a building that is a 400-meter-side cube, which will be larger than the Boeing Everett Factory, which apparently has beaten the Pentagon for a while. The company building it is New Murabba, headed by a white guy (!?) named Michael Dyke (?!). Ground has been broken (according to satellite photos from September 02024), but the total expected cost is US$50B. As of October they’d excavated 10 million m³ of dirt, 86% of the required excavation. #The-Line (part of NEOM) similarly excavated 170km of foundations two years ago, but has drastically scaled down due to a lack of investors.
on 02025-02-20#the-Line in Saudi Arabia is apparently fixed? Explores nomadic cities. Oh, it’s a Canadian architect marketing her ideas to the Saudis. Lots of nice eye-candy of architectural visualizations, though. Too bad half the #video is wasted on footage of her face.
