Tips on photobioreactor design: “Grow Chlorella faster than the bacteria can eat your Chlorella.” His first run with 800 liters (?) of Chlorella only absorbed a quarter of the CO₂ he was exhaling, though similar tests in the past had absorbed all of it. It turned out the algae were releasing CO₂. A later run worked even more poorly. Maybe the basswood was poisoning the algae or something. After a failed attempt to switch to Spirulina, he tried again with Chlorella and it worked great, maintaining the room below 1000ppm CO₂ for an hour, and delaying 2000ppm from 17 minutes (in his worst test) to 2 hours and 23 minutes.
