More #news about the #Brazil battle with #Comando-Vermelho that killed not 60 but 64 people. In one shot there seem to be 9 columns of black smoke, which, according to the other reports, were from police stations in flames. Classes were suspended in the universities and high schools, the streets of the city are almost empty because people went home early, and the gangs cut off a bunch of streets (with 71 hijacked public-transport buses? and, according to some of the footage, a semi?) to impede the movement of the police. And apparently the police cut off other streets. But this report doesn’t mention any attacks on police stations.
on 02025-10-28#news: after a battle with 100 arrested and 60 killed (including four police) in two favelas in Rio de Janeiro, #drones attacked police stations in #Brazil with grenades, leaving several of them (five?) spewing columns of black smoke at once. “Comando Vermelho” seems to be the name of the gang the government is fighting.
on 02025-10-28#news #video nine months ago from #Deutsche-Welle on #solar #manufacturing in #Europe, for example by #Switzerland company #Meyer-Burger in #Germany, which is opening a new factory in #Colorado-Springs, #USA. Credits national #China policy prioritizing #polysilicon production in the early 02000s. Lots of talking-head filler by Richard Black, director of policy and strategy at #Ember. Says #Brazil is “leading the renewable #energy boom taking place across the continent”, but apparently is trying #import-substitution with tariffs, and #ABSOLAR isn’t convinced local producers are enough. Says #Trump plans to cut Biden’s US subsidies. “Today, solar-powered energy is the cheapest form of electricity for the majority of the countries that use it. (...) Estimates put the cost somewhere between 300 and 900 dollars per kilowatt by 2030.” I guess when they made this video the mainstream solar module price was €0.14/Wp, and now it’s 29% lower at €0.10/Wp (US$106/kWp). Panasonic and LG recently exited the market. #photovoltaic
on 02024-11-27#video of a talking head claiming electrical #energy #pricing in #China is about 15¢/kWh, even though 20 years ago China was considered energy-poor. Also China consumes 26% of world energy (which would be about 5 TW), 55% of world coal (to India’s 12% and #USA’s 5%), and 15% of world oil (to the US’s 20%), according to the Energy Institute. Apparently the Chinese call their ultra-high-voltage #HVDC transmission lines a “Shinkansen for power”. The video author seems to be confusing HVDC with AC transmission. Claims #Brazil’s Belo Monte phase II HVDC transmission line is operated by the State Grid Corporation of China!
on 02024-11-26#video about #Argentina president #Milei calling Inácio Lula Da Silva, president of #Brazil, “The perfect dinosaur idiot”, “corrupt”, and “Communist”. Pure talking-head filler, with a voiceover reading tweets.
