“high-temperature” #superconductors include MgB₂, whose critical temperature is 39 K, with a critical current of over 10⁹ A/m² and an upper critical field of 55 T in fibers. Also it’s proposed as a ramjet fuel because it lets you burn boron without being impeded by boria. Lovely term, "reactive liquid infiltration".

Dominic Szablewski’s #audio #DSP #codec #file-format "qoa" for fast, lossy #compression: “[Quite OK Audio] is fast. It decodes audio 3x faster than Ogg-Vorbis, while offering better quality and compression (278 kbits/s for 44khz stereo) than ADPCM. QOA is simple. The reference en-/decoder fits in about 400 lines of C. The file format specification is a single page PDF.” This might be worthwhile for low-CPU-power audio recorders and maybe the Zorzpad, especially for games. Now supported systemwide in SerenityOS. Based on 4-tap linear prediction? With the weights varying over time?
Dominic Szablewski’s #image #compression #file-format: “[Quite OK Image] is fast. It losslessly compresses images to a similar size of PNG, while offering 20x-50x faster encoding and 3x-4x faster decoding. QOI is simple. The reference en-/decoder fits in about 300 lines of C. The file format specification is a single page PDF.” Again, maybe worthwhile for the Zorzpad.
The #ADPCM #audio #codec has problems in #Godot importer for the #WAV #file-format, but apparently it’s still reasonably popular.

The Fusion or "fut" programming language, previously Ć (cito), compiles to C, C++, C#, D, Java, JavaScript, Python, Swift, TypeScript and OpenCL C. The file extension is, hilariously, .fu — perhaps a reflection of how the author felt about criticisms of his previous choice of language. “The translated code is lightweight (no virtual machine, emulation nor dependencies), human-readable and fits well with the target language, including naming conventions and documentation comments. Fusion is not a general-purpose programming language. Instead, it is meant for implementing portable reusable libraries.” Depending on how much of a pain in the ass it is, it might be a better alternative than C to my frustrations with Python, namely that a Python library is only usable from Python and maybe Java.
