David Duffy's notes on #chess, #AI, and the theory of representation, including that AlphaZero's open-source successor is “lz0” or “Leela”, with an ELO rating of 3400, much better than the best human. “Chess moves and positions on the chessboard concretely express the evolution and states of abstract entities in a virtual time and space, whose properties are chosen to simulate the concrete objects, actions and decisions of soldiers,” the author says, disagreeing with #Frege. discussion of a #vitamin-D overdose article. Physician Deva Boone who wrote it: “Vitamin D supplements can be very helpful for those with a deficiency. The point that I am trying to make is that Vitamin D should not be thought of as a dietary supplement. I am seeing more and more people with high calcium levels from being on high-dose Vitamin D. If you treat Vitamin D like the steroid hormone that it is, you will treat it like a medicine, and not take outrageous doses because someone online suggested it.” #medicine #health
I like Patrick Collison's way of thinking; he's trying to tackle a lot of the same questions I am.
#ebook site of public-domain books focused on nice #typography and good proofreading; they do look quite nice. Tony Kuphaldt's #ebook about #hardware under mstutz's Design Science License, mostly abandoned since 2010 tho. Lots and lots of #SPICE examples though! The PDF version is in six volumes of about 2MB each, but there's also an HTML version. More recently he's been working on CC-BY-licensed material covering a lot of the background.
