#SQLite has date calculation functions that seem like the best #calendar #dates calculation language I’ve seen, except for not supporting time zones: “Compute the number of days since the signing of the US Declaration of Independence: SELECT julianday('now') - julianday('1776-07-04'); Compute the date of the first Tuesday in October for the current year: SELECT date('now','start of year','+9 months','weekday 2');.” That’s pretty great! But for getting a local time out of “2023-04-04 09:30:00-04:00” you’re better off using substr(date, 12, 8).
#van-Emden opines about the “algorithmic paradigm” that is sort of supplanting the “formulaic paradigm”. Very thought-provoking, and kind of parallel to some of the stuff Alan Kay is working on at #CDG. #calendar #algorithms
