#SQLite has date calculation functions that seem like the best #calendar #dates calculation language I’ve seen, except for not supporting time zones: “Compute the number of days since the signing of the US Declaration of Independence: SELECT julianday('now') - julianday('1776-07-04'); Compute the date of the first Tuesday in October for the current year: SELECT date('now','start of year','+9 months','weekday 2');.” That’s pretty great! But for getting a local time out of “2023-04-04 09:30:00-04:00” you’re better off using substr(date, 12, 8).
#SQLite is dynamically typed, but #dates don’t get a storage class of their own; instead you store them as text, real Julian days, or integer Unix epoch timestamps. Separately, columns have a “type affinity” which is drawn from almost the same set as the storage classes. This page explains the type system in detail.
#SQLite supports functional indices since version 3.9.0 from 02015-10-14, but only for deterministic functions.

Getting the time of day out of timestamp/datetime columns in #Pandas #databases is df['date_col'].dt.time. #dates
Oh hey, Cosma Shalizi got annoyed enough to explain #neural-networks, along with a hilarious dismissal of the Yudkowskyans: “Because life imitates the kind of schlocky fiction I adoringly consume, the public discussion of these models is polluted by maniacal cultists with obscure ties to decadent plutocrats. I find it hard to take the cult seriously enough intellectually to bother refuting it. These are, after all, people who think they can go from the definition of conditional probability, via Harry Potter fanfic, to prophesying that an AI god will judge the quick and the dead, and condemn those who hindered the coming of the Last Day to the everlasting simulated-but-still-painful fire.”
David Gross’s essay on how tax avoidance in #USA #politics can promote #effective-altruism has been downvoted to -15 by the Yudkowskyans.

more on the #MJPEG #file-format; it has native support in Firefox, Chromium, the PlayStation Portable (in 480×272 in an AVI container), the Wii, the Nikon D90 DSLR camera from 02008, etc.
