Tsiolkovsky published his rocket equation, $\Delta v = v_{\text{e}} \ln {\frac {m_0}{m_f}} = I_{\text{sp}}g_0 \ln {\frac {m_0}{m_f}}$, for #flying to #space in 01903, though #Goddard and some dude named Herman Oberth derived it independently. #history
#Goddard’s original proposal letter to the Smithsonian in 01916 about rockets. He thinks, “the device will, I am certain, be of very great importance to pure science, especially to meterology; whereas, although it may indeed have applications, I feel that its possibilities in warfare may be somewhat limited.” #history

San Diego Fix-It Clinic, with a few get-togethers per month, including one in Carlsbad. “By creating what [Bay Area founder Peter Mui] likes to describe as do-it-together disassembly at local libraries and/or makerspaces, he brought together the community of tradespeople to share their skills with their fellow neighbors on how to troubleshoot and repair their appliances, clothes, electronics (the list can be endless) at these hands-on clinics. This program has been adopted nationwide and has received overwhelming support in every community.” #tourism
