patent for sintering #glass #materials into #ceramics at only 750° by wetting 100-mesh soda-lime glass powder with PEG-8000 as a binder dissolved in isopropanol, drying it at 60°, dry-pressing it at 5000 psi (34 MPa) and then firing it. Apparently the absence of water in the process avoids foaming during firing. #patents
Tom Jennings recommends not using bipolar transistors for power applications now that we have power MOSFET #hardware.
#paper where Norman M. P. Low fabricated composite #materials by binding powdered mica with soda-lime glass and firing at 850°. I think this is the basis for the Mycalex/Mykroy machinable ceramic, although that uses E-glass. June 1980, Volume 15, Issue 6, pp 1509–1517, “Fabrication of cellular structure composite material from recycled soda-lime glass and phlogopite mica powders” #toread
Mycalex #materials apparently cost US$825 for a 14×20×0.062 sheet of the low-temperature (400°) version. I guess those are inches?
