#IEEE-754 #floating-point manages to make even the simplest functions into complicated quagmires! #Python
You can do a lot of simple interaction stuff purely in #HTML and #CSS now, plus the occasional <label> and <input> to maintain UI state, without using JS. Like, to the point of playable #video-games.
Bone is Wolfgang Jaehrling’s interpreter for a lexically-scoped #Lisp 1 (so, basically #Scheme) with immutable values, tail-call elimination, and explicit region-based #memory-management.
A statically-typed #Lisp without a GC, using ownership #memory-management inspired by #Rust. Compiles to C, but has a REPL, using dynamic code loading.
Xeni Jardin tweeted, “Dude ISIS is bombing Muslim people in Muslim communities during the Muslim holy month of Ramadan how is ISIS Muslim no they’re psychopaths”, and 34,694 people have retweeted it at this point, largely Muslims.
Fuck, a wget #security vulnerability with plausible ways to escalate to an account compromise. Time to turn off those wget cron jobs and upgrade.

The #history of the #Mussolini quote, “È Meglio Vivere un Giorno da Leone Che Cento Anni”, which he found written on the wall of a collapsed house.
The CommonMark dialect of #Markdown. It’s a lot less ambiguous than the original Markdown spec, but also a lot longer and more boring. It adds several incompatible features (although of course Markdown isn’t extensible, so all features added are incompatible), mostly improvements: fenced code blocks with ``` or ~~~, which include an “info string” extensibility point; HTML blocks with <? ?>, and HTML blocks without preceding blank lines; paragraph breaks between blockquotes; weird new rules about list item continuation indentation which will be really hard to manage in proportional fonts, but which should be easier to use; the new feature that changing the bullet or ordered list delimiter starts a new list; lists that interrupt paragraphs; specifying start numbers for <ol>; backslashed newlines for hard line breaks; link targets in pointy brackets [foo](<bar>); no whitespace allowed in between [text][label]; and “shortcut” [links to references] without a separate reference name. It fixes the problem in some implementations where link reference definitions couldn’t be split across lines.
Oh hey, The CommonMark #Markdown dialect has a reference implementation in #JS for live editing in browsers. (And another one in C.) Naturally, it supports all the HTML block stuff; not sure if there’s a way to whitelist tags and URL schemes to avoid XSS #security problems.
How to make a #circuit that lights up an LED with induction. Includes an oscillator design that’s an NPN transistor, a resistor, and a hand-wound transformer. Then it suggests encrusting the LED with borax crystals. #hardware
Edward Majerczyk got access to “over 300 iCloud and Gmail accounts” via phishing and other #security violations, stealing nude photos that became much of the #fappening. Ryan Collins pled guilty to similar shit in March.
