on 02017-03-11Oh hey, The CommonMark #Markdown dialect has a reference implementation in #JS for live editing in browsers. (And another one in C.) Naturally, it supports all the HTML block stuff; not sure if there’s a way to whitelist tags and URL schemes to avoid XSS #security problems.
on 02016-07-05The CommonMark dialect of #Markdown. It’s a lot less ambiguous than the original Markdown spec, but also a lot longer and more boring. It adds several incompatible features (although of course Markdown isn’t extensible, so all features added are incompatible), mostly improvements: fenced code blocks with ``` or ~~~, which include an “info string” extensibility point; HTML blocks with <? ?>, and HTML blocks without preceding blank lines; paragraph breaks between blockquotes; weird new rules about list item continuation indentation which will be really hard to manage in proportional fonts, but which should be easier to use; the new feature that changing the bullet or ordered list delimiter starts a new list; lists that interrupt paragraphs; specifying start numbers for <ol>; backslashed newlines for hard line breaks; link targets in pointy brackets [foo](<bar>); no whitespace allowed in between [text][label]; and “shortcut” [links to references] without a separate reference name. It fixes the problem in some implementations where link reference definitions couldn’t be split across lines.
