last night, this morning

Talked to brad a bit via ytalk, which was nice.

Watched Drew Carey with Marilyn, which was nice.

Compiled 2.2.12 last night. It took about an hour. Then I built the
modules this morning as I showered (I awoke at 9:00, so I didn't have
much time to spare), which took about half an hour. Amazing.

I think I should get a newer machine. I don't understand how a machine
with only three times the clock speed and two processors instead of one
can be sixty times faster, but it is -- Steve's dual PPro-400 builds
the Linux kernel in about a minute.

I was quite impressed with the array of filesystems supported. (I
built most of them as modules -- this has something to do with why the
build took so long!) Amiga, Mac, NTFS, OS/2 HPFS, etc. -- and I see
somebody wrote a Commodore 64 filesystem driver last week.

Anyway, I kicked off the ALSA driver compile before I left. I'm still
at the "it shows up in /proc/pci" stage with the sound card.

Spent about an hour this morning writing a program to go through a
mailbox and extract a list of people who had actually sent mail
directly to me (as opposed to, say, a mailing list I'm on).

I realized I forgot my brother's birthday a few days ago. I should
probably send him something or other.

I think I should do something about the Mac II(ci?si?) I have. Like
get a monitor for it.
