I think a better #Spanish translation of “every little bit counts” (en_UK: “every little counts”) is “algo es algo”, but here it’s translated as “cada poquito cuenta”, “todo cuenta”, and “cada pequeño esfuerzo cuenta”.

on 02026-08-10#Spanish vocabulary size:
> - 750 words constitute those that are used every single day by every person who speaks the language.
> - 2,500 words constitute those that should enable you to express everything you could possibly want to say, albeit often via awkward circumlocutions.
> - 5,000 words constitute the active vocabulary of native speakers without higher education.
> - 10,000 words constitute the active vocabulary of native speakers with higher education.
> - 20,000 words constitute what you need to recognize passively in order to read, understand, and enjoy a work of literature, such as a novel by a notable author.
So I guess I’m still not speaking Spanish at an educated level.
on 02026-08-05“A2 = circa 3,000 (in theory) B2= circa 6,000 (in theory) C2 = circa 9,000 (in theory) (...) I recently [took] an A2 exam, having only learned circa 2,200 words (of which I had about 90% retention). I passed with 73%. Better yet, I did not study their curriculum and thus this mark is derived only from the overlapping area of my curriculum and [theirs]. That is to say that reality is less than 2,200. So my real guess -though it is just a guess - is the truth is closer to 2,000 - 4,000 - 6,000 maybe 7,000 if you want to be generous.” #Spanish
on 02026-08-05This online test claims my #Spanish vocabulary is about 5900 words, including virtually all of the 2000 most common words, roughly CEFR C1 level. This is based on me claiming to know 32 of their stratified 50-word sample.
