#crime #news “A grand jury declined to indict homeowner Mitchell #Duckro for the July 31 deadly shooting that killed 22-year-old James Rayl outside of Duckro’s house in Sidney, Ohio. Duckro’s daughter, Allyson Duckro, previously dated Rayl, but they had ended their relationship more than 18 months prior.” Apparently Mitch Duckro was holding the door shut from the inside against James’s attacks. Having done this, I think it’s a bad idea; being right next to the door means that someone outside it can shoot you through it at point blank range, and if they’re armed with a knife, you’re within knife range of the door when they come in. “Allyson Duckro said she was on the phone with 911 by that point when Rayl broke the glass and the door frame became loose, and she went to hide before hearing gunshots. Police arrived on the scene soon after.”

The neighbors come over and sportscast Rayl’s gradual death. Allyson: “I’m not mad at you (...) You’re the best dad ever. You just saved my life.” But all three of them are pretty traumatized, and Allyson has chest pains that may be related to her heart condition. The voicemail he left her the night before (after she hadn’t talked to him in a year) didn’t seem especially obsessed or threatening; it sounded like he was just hoping to reconnect with her.
