many horror stories about #Backblaze #backups. In other threads people recommend Borg Backup and Restic as alternatives.
on 02026-04-14claims #Backblaze does back up .git directories, just hides them by default in the web UI, but others claim Backblaze support says they don’t. #backups
on 02026-04-14Neil44 points out that #Backblaze backing up things like #Dropbox could be Really Bad Actually: “you could sync a 1tb onedrive to your 250gb laptop but it’s OK because of smart/selective sync aka files on demand. Then backblaze backup tries to back the folder up and requests a download of every single file and now you have zero bytes free, still no backup and a sick laptop” #backups
on 02026-04-14#Backblaze silently stopped backing up Git repositories (though others debate this), and also, in version 9.2.2.877, “services like OneDrive, Google Drive, #Dropbox, Box, iDrive, and others”. #backups
