#Akio finally built a better #switched-reluctance motor, with laminated stator and rotor, which he got laser-cut from 60 layers of 1mm non-electrical steel for €200, 16 turns of ½mm² copper wire on each of his 12 stator poles. 2000 rpm, 400mA, with no load, 1–2A when stalled with his fingers on the shaft, no torque or power measurements given. #motors #hardware #bootstrapping #DIY
on 02025-06-17#video by #Akio (the switched reluctance motor guy) about #TCES #energy storage. Dramatically impractical setup trying to use 45 grams of granular CaCl₂ in contact with aluminum (!!), which heats up the 2.5ℓ/s of air from his computer fan from 15.5° to 23°, which by my calculations works out to about 20 watts of heating, 13 watts by his incorrect calculations (6 Wh over 28'). Then he regenerates it (from 55g back down towards 45g) in a steel can (!!!). 6 Wh in 45g is 0.48MJ/kg. He devotes a lot of talking head footage to explaining that he doesn’t know how to use his measuring instruments.
