Molly Ball says, “That’s why the participants want the secret history of the 2020 election told, even though it sounds like a paranoid fever dream–a well-funded cabal of powerful people, ranging across industries and ideologies, working together behind the scenes to influence perceptions, change rules and laws, steer media coverage and control the flow of information. They were not rigging the election; they were fortifying it. And they believe the public needs to understand the system’s fragility in order to ensure that democracy in America endures.” #news #history #politics #USA

#Trump leak of war plans to Atlantic editor Goldberg: Trump spokesperson Brian Hughes forwarded Jeffrey Goldberg’s phone number to Mike Waltz in an email in October so Waltz could call him to comment on a story Goldberg was going to run about Trump’s “attitude towards sounded service members”, and Waltz saved it as Hughes’s number, which is how he ended up adding him to the Signal group. #news "According to the White House, the number was erroneously saved during a “contact suggestion update” by Waltz’s iPhone, which one person described as the function where an iPhone algorithm adds a previously unknown number to an existing contact that it detects may be related. (...) the White House had authorized the use of Signal, largely because there is no alternative platform to text in real time across different agencies, two people familiar with the matter said. Previous administrations, including the Biden White House, did not develop an alternative platform to Signal, one of the people said. As a temporary solution, the Trump White House told officials to use Signal as they had done during the transition instead of regular text-message chains.”
