#CodingAdventure #video about #raytracing #graphics with BVH in #Unity. He’s using AABBs split spatially in half along the long axis, with triangles assigned according to their centers and the AABBs grown to fit. He’s using the Stanford Dragon as his test mesh. Apparently Unity’s shader language doesn’t support recursion, nested lists, or dynamic allocations, but syntactically looks very much like C#, except for out or inout on some parameters. while-loops are fine. You communicate with the shader by SetBuffering a “material” (RayTracingMaterial, I guess is what he called his shader), but the buffer names aren’t checked. Also he crashed the GPU by overrunning a buffer. Aha, and Unity wraps your mouse around the left and right edges of the screen when you’re dragging left or right on a number to adjust it. By building a 27-level deep BVH over an 81000-triangle reduced version of the model and using early ray termination tests, he was able to get that model to display at 325+ fps instead of being slow and janky. Further optimizations (maintaining integers rather than structs on the BVH stack, splitting nodes using the “surface area heuristic”, and reducing the size of his node struct) got to 600+. This version could handle the whole 870k triangle model at almost 500 fps. Finally he adds reflection and renders the model in the Sponza Palace.

another #video about improvised drone #weaponry, contrasting #Ukraine’s improvised FPV kamikaze drones with RPGs with Russia’s Iranian-made GPS(?)-targeted Shahed-136 drones (though I’m pretty sure Russia makes plenty of its own FPV kamikaze drones). Unfortunately mostly filler stock footage
#Ukraine #video about HIMARS attacks on Russian bases on Monday.
#video about Russian “turtle tanks” in #Ukraine, tanks with sheet-metal sheds on top, which apparently help a lot against FPV drones but can’t turn their turrets much. Sometimes hanging chains obstruct quadcopter entrance through openings. Relevant that #USA and #EU stopped sending much aid in October.
#video about the French Foreign Legion entering #Ukraine two weeks ago as “instructors”. Also says that as of 02024-05-27 the countries that allowed their weapons to be used (by Ukraine) on Russian soil were Latvia, Lithuania, Estonia, Great Britain, Sweden, Finland, Netherlands, Poland, and Czechia; the #USA joined the lis a week ago. Lots of time-wasting talking-head and stock footage. Video is 28 minutes long, therefore #toread
#video of the results of Russia’s latest attack on Kyiv, #Ukraine. The Air Force says it shot down all 24 drones and five out of six missiles (one ALBM, four cruise missiles, and an Iskander ballistic missiles). Apparently one got through. Poland scrambled jets in case they were aimed at Poland. Russia claims to have nuclear warheads deployed in Belarus. Russian warship and nuclear submarine are curently in Havana.
#Milei, speaking at a Cato forum yesterday here in #Argentina (“The Rebirth of Liberty in Argentina and Beyond”), says the state is a criminal and violent organization, quoting Rothbard and Hayek. Apparently the DNU is still “en pie”. #politics

#video #politics; tonight the senate is voting on #Milei’s “Ley Bases” proposal to utterly overhaul the law of #Argentina (and delegate an awful lot of power to him), while protestors outside are slinging rocks and burning a car
#video #politics the “Ley Bases” passed in the Senate of #Argentina tonight, with the vice president Victoria Villarruel casting the tie-breaking vote with some political rhetoric at about 23:15. #Milei issued a communiqué describing the protestors burning a car and throwing stones outside the building as “terrorists attacking Congress” and describing the legislation as “el primer paso hacia la recuperación de nuestra grandeza”, “the first step towards the recovery of our greatness”. Apparently it has to go back to the lower house to reconcile the differences between the versions the two houses voted on. The video is somewhat repetitive and wastes time on a talking head.
#Cesar #video demonstrates how to make an oil heating lamp out of four cotton wicks, discarded tin cans, and used (or unused) cooking oil. An upper louver part reaches about 150° and radiates a pleasant heat. I’m pretty sure kerosene would work even better, but actually kerosene is slightly more expensive; it’s about $2000 a liter, while sunflower oil is closer to $1300 a liter, and soy oil is $900.

#video of #Ukraine and Russia #tanks popping open like a jack-in-the-box when the ammunition inside gets blown up. Annoyingly dramatic music. In Spanish. Partly blames the autoloader, whose purpose was to make the tanks smaller, and therefore both harder to hit and cheaper, but also the fact that the other half of the ammunition is under the crew, a part which is often left empty nowadays. Also points out that usually the jack-in-the-box explosion is 30-60 minutes after the initial hit, giving the crew time to escape before that rather fatal explosion. Contrasts the Abrams’s blow-out panels. Suppoedly shows Lancet HEAT #drones destroying an Abrams at 11'05". #weaponry
