Bunnie is critical of #Rust due to his experience on the #Precursor and #Xous. “I often ask myself “when is the point we’ll get off the Rust release train”, and the answer I think is when they finally make “alloc” no longer a nightly API. At the moment, no-std targets have no access to the heap, unless they hop on the “nightly” train, in which case you’re back into the Python-esque nightmare of your code routinely breaking with language releases.” Ugh.

#speech-synthesis on an ATtiny85 #AVR? No
#speech-synthesis on an ATtiny85 #AVR? or just #audio reproduction maybe with a piezo buzzer
yeah, it’s not #AVR #speech-synthesis, it’s “#Audio encoded as unsigned 8-bit, 8kHz sampling rate,” 4.6K of it
Atmel’s appnote on #audio playback on #AVR using SPI Flash #hardware
#Audio playback and recording with a PIC or other small microcontroller #hardware from a 1-bit (?) bitstream, using the standard RC time constant model (but with the time constant scaled to be a factor of 2 instead of e) in different #algorithms. He scales the waveform down to half the maximum possible amplitude and then models the RC time constant with each possible bit, with the sample time set to a decay factor of ⅛ (which I guess is .133τ) to see which one gives a smaller error, and goes with that bit. He got acceptable response at 19.5ksps.
