on 02025-06-22as much information as could be found publicly about the board structure and capital ownership of #Nebula, which is majority-owned (83.125%) by “Standard Broadcast”, which is part-owned by a bunch of YouTubers, while a minority stake (16.875%) is owned by “Curiosity Stream”. There are provisions in place for distributing 50% of any acquisition money to the people who put their videos on Nebula, but they don’t own any of it directly. “Unfortunately, without access to one of their contracts, we can’t know for sure what power the broader group of creators actually has. It’s possible that the terms are so favorable for creators that their shadow equity is as good as actual ownership. It’s equally possible, however, that the system was set up in order to keep any meaningful power away from the creators. If the creators don’t control the board then creators don’t control the budget, which means they don’t control the platform.”
