on 02025-12-21more about #Hershey-fonts and their #history, including a drafting textbook from 01865 with a “technical lettering style” quite similar to #Gorton
on 02025-12-21Marcin Wichary, Figma design directory, wrote this #Gorton #fonts page, tracing the current letterforms (more or less) back to 01902! Then it spread to Leroy lettering sets and Wonder Woman comic books and Letraset rubbings... and #Hershey-fonts! It originated at Taylor, Taylor, & Hobson in the UK in 01894, four years before Akzidenz-Grotesk. 6100 words, 600 photos. #history
on 02025-12-21#Gorton #fonts catalog from 01952, used in numerous pantograph engravings all around us all the time. Kindof ugly tho. They apparently licensed the font originally in 01895, long before the fashionability of sans-serif fonts.
