apparently #Helion’s #fusion #energy press release about Malaga is from July
on 02025-11-1450MW #Helion #fusion #energy plant being built in Malaga, Washington (no date)
on 02025-11-14#Helion #fusion #energy proposal is to throw plasmons at each other and magnetically compress the fireball, then harness the plasma’s expansion (?) electrically
on 02025-11-14The #NIF achieved #fusion ignition
on 02022-12-30Tom Murphy’s 02012 analysis of #fusion #energy, advised by Bob Hirsch: “In the end, it is unclear whether a fusion plant—even after the physics is tamed—would be economically viable, and attractive enough for investors to take on endeavors of this scale, complexity, and risk.”
on 02022-12-30In 02014 #Amory-Lovins explains that #fusion #energy needs to beat not fossil fuels and fission, but renewables, which have become cheaper

on 02017-04-26Tri Alpha is firing plasmoids at each other and getting the resulting fireball to hold together for 5ms? i.e. tori of #plasma confined by their own magnetic fields, aka “field-reversed configuration” thingies. Attempt to harness hydrogen-boron #fusion to harvest #energy. Also they’re supposedly firing the tori at “nearly a million kilometers per hour”, which would allow them to travel nearly 1400 meters in those 5ms, evoking sci-fi notions of plasmoid weapons; but in fact this is under very special conditions which wouldn’t obtain in space, and they are constantly adding energy to keep the plasma confined during those 5ms. So far they’re only at 10MK; need to reach 3GK, not just the 100MK needed for D-T fusion.
