I didn’t realize there was a ProofWiki. #math
"RMSProp" was the state-of-the-art form of #stochastic-gradient-descent #gradient-descent from 02012 to 02014, and was tossed out casually in a Coursera lecture by Geoffrey #Hinton.
Encyclopedia of Math uses #TeX with $$ delimiters for multiline math and $ for non-multiline.
Was #well-founded induction discovered by Noether? “#Bourbaki’s first edition of Algèbre commutative dates from 1968. But Noetherian topological spaces are already defined in Grothendieck-Dieudonné’s Éléments de géométrie algébrique, I (1960), and the « principe de récurrence noethérienne » is stated (and proved) in Chapter 0, (2.2.2). (...) Meanwhile, the Wikipedia entry on the axiom of foundation asserts that “the concept of well-foundedness and rank of a set were both introduced by Dmitry Mirimanoff (1917).” #math #history
#PDF in French of #Bourbaki on “Noetherian rings”. Possibly useful for the #history of #well-founded things in #math.

It seems like #Fefe (of #dietlibc and #libowfat fame) had a stroke in May.
#Anthropic #AI is taking investment from “bad people” such as “dictators”: “without a central authority blocking them, there’s a race to the bottom where companies gain a lot of advantage by getting deeper and deeper in bed with the Middle East.”
Comic based on MS Comic Chat, formerly known as Jerkcity, joking about #systemd
peer-to-peer terminal sharing over #magic-wormhole #tunnels: “Built on top of Fowl, shwim uses tty-share with localhost-only network addresses over Magic Wormhole (via Fowl) so you get durable, end-to-end-encrypted, on-demand terminal sharing. (...) The tty-share project hosts a public service – however, while traffic to the server is encrypted, it can see all content. Also, if you sleep your laptop or disconnect briefly, the connection is gone.
Using the “magic” of a Dilated Magic Wormhole we can easily layer “durability” and “end-to-end encryption” on top of the existing tty-share program (with zero changes to tty-share itself).”
There’s an entire Wikipedia article about #Hitler and #vegetarianism in #history; apparently he was vegetarian from 01942 onwards, but not before 01937, and probably not before 01941, except that his cooks sneaked meat products into his diet until at least 01943, and he continued taking animal-derived drugs until his death.
#Hitler specifically prohibited Jews from owning weapons, though #gun-control was already strong in the Weimar Republic. #history

Uhoh, now companies named Nucleus Embryo, Herasight, Genomic Prediction, and Orchid let you select your embryos for #IVF by IQ, eye color, and schizophrenia risk. “How much would you pay to give your children an extra 1-4 years of healthy life?
This is no longer a hypothetical question.” But what about antagonistic #pleiotropy? Also there’s a nice colored correlation matrix showing genetic-risk relationships between different #mental-health problems. #eugenics
