#EEVblog #hardware review of a US$25 multimeter, the Aneng AN8008, which is autoranging. He bought it on AliExpress. Same size as the Fluke 101. Has a falsified “1000V” voltage rating on the outside but only 250V fuses on the inside. He complains about the absence of safety measures like MOVs, though he does find a PTC resistor, and the terrible quality of the solder joints. But he really likes its large, high-contrast digits and “awesome” microvolt resolution, and verifies that it really is accurate to within about three parts in ten thousand, except for low ac voltages. It can measure capacitors too. It can generate a square wave at 50–5000Hz and also has a frequency counter, though it gives wrong answers above a few megahertz unless the signal is at least 150mV. Confusingly, the milliamps jack is the amps jack, not the volts and ohms jack. You can turn a backlight on. He says it’s missing the 10mA and 100mA ranges; if I understand right, if you want to measure over a milliamp you have to do it on a 1-amp range which only gives you milliamp precision.
#bigclive sex toy teardown, clitoral suction stimulator (“Nooky” brand from Poundland). It’s built around an unidentified 8-pin microcontroller and an outboard MOSFET (“A2SHB”) to PWM the motor, which pushes a rubber suction cup up and down with a crank. The microcontroller is powered at 3.6V with an E36F boost converter shunt controller running a diode, capacitor, and inductor, all of which are surface-mount, and then there’s an LC filter to low-pass filter the micro’s power. #mechanical #hardware
