The #Brave initial coin offering (ICO) raised US$35M for “BAT”, “Basic Attention Tokens”, in a sort of claim on future goods to be produced by Brave, selling via #Ethereum. 130 people bought them. 20 buyers bought ⅔, which sounds pretty concentrated but is a lot less concentrated than raising a round from VCs.

Eric Barton of Lustre (formerly of Meiko Scientific) says filesystems must basically disappear due to #3D-XPoint memory #hardware or even the NVM-Express protocol for flash, despite the remaining need for wear leveling and write coalescing: “No longer do you have this big latency that lets you hide all of the functionality of the storage system. If you have this thickness of software between the application and the storage media, you deny the application the benefit of that media.” I think XPoint supports per-word erase rather than requiring flash’s per-page erase, which imposes so much complexity on the FTL.
