Rui Ueyama wrote a #bootstrapping #C compiler in 5000 lines of code in 40 days. Starts with a run-time stack machine and single-level parser directly emitting code, later separated into a more conventional tokenizer-parser-generator structure. Supporting standard ABIs. After 29 days it was able to partly self-compile, after 37 days it incorrectly thought it could compile itself, and after 40 days it was self-hosting. #compilers
The FAA is going to require users of #drones over 250 grams in the US to register them, and also “the FAA would continue to exercise enforcement discretion for aircraft that weigh less than 0.55 pounds, such as paper airplanes that are not linked to a system.” If I understand correctly, this does not even exclude model aircraft, which are things that are capable of sustained flight and flown within visual line of sight and for hobby or recreational purposes, even though some commenters claim the FAA is not authorized to regulate them.
Michael Hansmeyer designing fractal columns through some kind of computational origami, then constructing them by #laser-cutter. He’s written a couple of papers on the topic but none of them seem to be online. #video
