Sakura is (mostly) a #crypto tree hashing mode for constructing tree hashes from secure #hash functions. It avoids a #security problem that I don’t understand yet with confusing leaf nodes with internal nodes.
Juan Benet’s definition of “Merkle DAG”, the #hash foundation of IPFS (and also Merkle trees, Git, and Bitcoin). #ndn
A patent application for a kind of tubular #springs. #patents
Stackie is kind of like IBNIZ, a stack machine for #procedural textures.
Stackie is kind of like IBNIZ, a stack machine for #procedural textures. Has Perlin noise and transcendental functions as intrinsics, but no bitwise operations.
“Multi-layer recurrent #neural-networks (LSTM, GRU, RNN) for character-level language models in Torch” in #Lua, which generate pretty spectacular random text. This is (some of) the code for #unreasonable-RNNs.
A hundred-line example of recurrent #neural-networks for text generation, by the author of #unreasonable-RNNs.
“A scientific computing framework for #LuaJIT” #Lua ndarrays, like Numpy, with #GPGPU stuff. And even FPGAs! "Torch 7"
Ian Murdock (#Debian founder) tells the story of his childhood programming.
#bcrypt’s cost parameter is the log-base-2 of the number of rounds to use for #key-stretching.
#bcrypt in pure #node #JS has #performance of 108ms with rounds=9 (which really means 2⁹ rounds) on a 3GHz CPU; a C++ version takes 76ms. It would probably make sense to use 13 or 14 nowadays, as a result, unless you’re running bcrypt on your smartphone.
In 1999, #bcrypt required using 6 or 8 “rounds” (really lg rounds) for reasonable #performance; nowadays 12 or more is probably necessary for #security.
#meteor by default watches all your files for changes; the deploy bundle instead creates two minified files. There's a --production flag to minify the files.
Digitalocean’s recommended configuration for deploying #Meteor apps is using #Nginx as a reverse proxy to provide SSL.
Patent application PCT/FR2003/000938, filed in 2003 by Allain Serge with priority date 2002, suggests a slingshot (“fronde”) using nylon cords instead of elastic bands, block-and-tackle #pulley gearing to pull the cords, and a spring or compressed air, to fire your little rock or whatever. Google doesn’t have the images. #patents
Allain Serge’s slingshot patent (“FRONDE A MECANISME”), issued in France as FR2837918. #patents
Allain Serge's slingshot patent ("FRONDE A MECANISME"), with one of the diagrams on the front page! The service serving up the 37 PDFs of the 37 pages are unreliable. Apparently “WO 03081161 A1”.
Another slingshot patent that uses coil springs instead of elastic cords, this one with the idea of reducing the pull force at full extension so you can aim it accurately. Says the cords can be “nylon rope, cotton rope, or other pliable material and in this example are woven steel airplane cable.” This one is referenced by basically everything. #patents
Another lapsed slingshot patent with pulleys and cords to achieve a mechanical advantage to propel the projectile, using cams and eccentric pulleys. #patents
The entire pulley-driven slingshot #patent, with all the images and everything.
#NaCl does provide public-key signature #security: crypto_sign_keypair, crypto_sign, and crypto_sign_open. I don’t know why I thought it didn’t.
