“Multifunctional Stiff Carbon #Foam Derived from Bread” by Ye Yuan, Yujie Ding, Chunhui Wang, Fan Xu, Zaishan Lin, Yuyang Qin, Ying Li, Minglong Yang, Xiaodong He, Qingyu Peng, and Yibin Li. They baked bread (though they didn’t specify what kind of flour they used), oven-dried it, and pyrolyzed it under argon in a tube furnace at 500° and 2000° (the 2000° version removed more organic material, although I imagine you could wrap it in aluminum foil instead for up to 660°, or bury it in sand up to 1600°). 3.6 MPa compressive strength, 0.08–0.29 g/cc, 121 MPa compressive modulus, .06 W/m/K thermal conductivity, surface areas from 988 m²/g for large and irregular pore structure down to 19 m²/g. #materials
